Some Guidelines When Donating Food to Organizations
Food is important for our lives and many people get anxious at the thought of not being able to feed their families their nest meal. Food pantries and organizations are not able to feed everyone who comes in and if people get there too late, then they end up not being fed at all.
Food pantries need donations, and if you have extra food or extra money to buy food, then you can donate them to the pantry. The food that you will donate should be non perishable items like canned vegetables, dry goods, or canned meats.
Another type of food that you should not donate are food that require a lot of ingredients like hamburger helpers since the recipients of the donation might not have other ingredients, and besides hamburger meat is a perishable item. Many families will then not be able to get it and they cannot afford to buy it.
There are many types of food that you should not donate to food pantries and organizations. Foods that are not good or are not healthy for people to eat and foods that these poor people are able to eat all the time like Ramen.
Ramen is not a healthy food since it is very high in sodium and you don’t really get anything out of it nutritionally. t is also very cheap and something that poor families can actually afford.
Some food pantries and organizations will accept perishable items but your should not put them with dry goods and canned foods. Taking the perishable item immediately to the food pantry will enable them to decide what to do with the food item.
If you are going to donate perishable items, make sure that you do not bring in large amounts like frozen vegetable or hamburger meat.
You should not donate food items in dented cans, foods that have no labels of foods that com in glass containers. Check the label of the food you are donating. It they are spicy foods you should not donate them. Do not donate foods that you would not eat yourself.
When donating foods to food pantries or organizations, make sure that you keep these tips in mind. One thing to know what foods to donate is to think of what foods you want to eat if you were also on the receiving end of the food pantry. If you have thought about it, write down a list of these items, go shopping and drop off the foods at our local pantry. Food donations are accepted by many food organizations online. Helping someone by donating food is something that many will appreciate.
